BURNING PERMITS

Obtaining Burning Permits in the Township of Conmee

Burning Permits are required for all fires, except those for cooking or warmth, from May 1st to October 31st each year. Fires that are used for cooking or warmth must not exceed 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet high. Although a permit is not required, you should ensure that the fire is in a safe place, away from other combustible materials, and you should have a shovel and water for putting the fire out.

Permits are usually valid for 7 days. Permit fires may be started one hour before sundown and must be out one hour after sunrise. This means you may burn though the night. Daytime burning is only allowed by special permission from the Fire Chief. Burning is allowed at night because the moisture level is higher, and as Conmee Emergency Services is a volunteer organization, there are usually more responders to a potential fire at night. Most of our volunteers work out of the Township during the day. Permits may be shortened to 5 or 3 days during times of high fire hazard and all burning may be banned at the discretion of the Fire Chief. Permits already issued will be revoked.

Permits may be obtained from the Municipal Office,19 Holland Road West, and may only be issued to the property owner. All permits must be signed by the property owner.
